resistance training
Bruce Mitchell’s journey began on a farm, where at just ten years old he found refuge from a chaotic childhood marked by instability and hardship. The farm became his classroom in discipline and hard work, teaching him that your background does not define your future. Only your daily choices do.
Everything changed in 1982, when Bruce’s best friend, Tony Cargill, a state powerlifting champion, tragically passed away. At Tony’s funeral, Bruce made a promise to commit fully to training; a vow that transformed grief into purpose and set him on a path of lifelong discipline.
By 1988, that discipline led Bruce to the Queensland Fire Service, where the strength, endurance, and mental toughness he had developed became essential tools for saving lives. Over 36 years on the frontline, his training was tested under the most extreme conditions, proving its real-world effectiveness time and again.
Bruce’s methods also made waves in the world of sport. In 2001, he began training Nathan “Carnage” Corbett, an aspiring fighter many believed would be slowed by weight training. Seven years later, Nathan had become an 11-time World Muay Thai Champion, validating the Mitchell Method at the highest level and cementing Bruce’s reputation as a champion builder.
Today, Bruce continues to lead by example. Retired from the Fire Service, he travels across Australia delivering seminars, workshops, and mentorship through the Mitchell Method. At 65, he trains five days a week, completely injury-free, showing that transformation is achievable at any age with patience, discipline, and proper technique.
I recommend you take a serious look into Bruce’s training program and principles and watch your body and mind change sooner than you would ever imagine.
The year was 2001, when I was training in a weights gym and saw this man with the biggest arms I had ever seen and just an all over amazing physique. I’d just become professional Australian Muay Thai Champion, and I was looking for the next edge in my career. Soon after that day I saw Bruce we became friends and not long after that we began training together. This is when the magic started, Bruce took me on and mentored me in all my weight training and sprint training for the next 7 years and within that time we won 7 World titles across two weight divisions.
Bruce’s approach to weight training is exactly what kept me so strong explosive and competitive at the highest level without getting injured, as many people train too hard in the wrong way and are running on the edge of major injuries. Smart safe affective approach to weight training is the key to success!
Bruce Mitchell has all of these qualities and a lot more than just that, he includes the positivity that is needed to be consistent with your goals. Over the many years as a Champion, I’d easily say a huge part of my success was due to the mentorship that Bruce had given me, in and out of the gym. 22 years later I still use the same training when I am training alone and his voice is constantly in my head, full range slow down, keep breathing, relax everything else in your body, just to mention a few points. If you are looking to get started or have been training for years already, I recommend you take a serious look into Bruce’s training program and principles and watch your body and mind change sooner than you would ever imagine.
